Do I need an appointment?

We see patients on an appointment basis for chronic conditions. Patients with new or emerging conditions are welcome to come in any time we are open for walk-in care and they will be seen as soon as possible. Or - they can can call and make an appointment. We make every effort to honor our time commitments and request that you extend the same courtesy to us. If a scheduled appointment can not be kept, please notify the clinic as much in advance as possible.

What if I have a question about my care?

Our patients are encouraged to call during clinic hours with questions they have pertaining to their medical care. Our staff is trained to answer your questions. They will relay information to the appropriate person and your call will be returned at the earliest opportunity. Some questions may not be able to be answered over the phone. In this case, we will schedule an appointment or ask you to come in to our walk-in care.

What if I need to call after you're closed?

It is always best if you call the clinic during our regular office hours. However, if it is necessary to contact us outside regular hours, you may call the clinic number and our exchange will relay your emergency message. In case of a life threatening emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to the appropriate emergency room.

I need a prescription refill. What should I do?

We will normally prescribe our patients enough refills to last until time for your next appointment. Please call your pharmacy at least 24 hours in advance when you need a prescription refilled. This will allow sufficient time for the pharmacy to contact us for authorization. Medical standards do not allow us to refill prescriptions if you do not return for appropriate visits. For your safety, we do not authorize refills outside business hours. Pain medication refills are only processed at scheduled office visits.

At this time, we are not prescribing any narcotic medications. You will be referred to a pain specialist if needed.

Are my records private?

The interchange between the practitioner and the patient is a private matter and your records will be kept confidential. Other than specialists you have been referred to and your insurance plan, no information will be released to outside parties without your permission.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?

Your primary care provider (our office) is your first stop for the medical care you need. We will handle referrals to the appropriate medical specialists. Many health plans and most specialist offices require you to have a referral from your primary care provider before you visit a medical specialist or an emergency room. Your primary care provider is required to have seen you for a particular problem before making the referral. We will be happy to discuss your referral needs with you.

How will I get my test results?

Our medical staff will review the reports from any diagnostic tests done for you. If the results are abnormal, we will contact you as soon as possible. Normal results will be reported to you by telephone or mail if no additional follow up is required. In cases where you are experiencing ongoing problems, we will need to schedule you for additional office visits to go over results and discuss how to best approach your problem. For x-ray and laboratory testing, you will usually receive a separate billing from the laboratory performing the test or the radiologist reading the x-ray.

What kind of problems can I be seen for at Walk-in Care?

The purpose of the walk-in care clinic is to take care of the urgent medical problems that come up for all of us. We will also see you for worsening chronic conditions that need to be seen before you can get in to see your regular primary care provider. However, regular primary care and following of chronic conditions are handled by appointment with our primary care providers. New patients can also be seen, regardless of their problem. Because of regulatory and other complications, patients on chronic pain medication must be seen on a scheduled basis.

How does your Walk-in Care work?

Patients at our walk-in care clinic are seen on a first come, first served basis. Some extreme ' situations will take precedence. When you check in, you will be given an estimate of how long your wait (if any) will be. You will also be asked to fill out some required paperwork if you have not been seen by us recently.

What are the Walk-in Care hours?

Walk-in Care hours are from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday; we are closed for lunch between 12:00pm and 1:30pm. Hours may change in the future, depending on customer demand.

What should I bring with me to Walk-in Care?

You will need your insurance card (if any), your payment for visit or co-pay, proof of identity (usually your drivers license or other government issued photo identity) and a list of all medications and drugs you currently take (or your pill bottles).

Can I choose the provider who will see me at Walk-in Care?

Due to the scheduling complications of Walk-in Care, we are unable promise you a particular provider. Our providers are all skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioners who will give you the best care available.

You can make an appointment with our primary care provider of your choice for the care of problems that require regular visits, annual exams, or problems that can wait for an appointment.

What payment types do you accept?

We take Cash, Checks, Credit and Debit Cards. Due to the type of services we offer, we are unable to bill those who are not covered by one of our contracted insurances. For those with limited income and without insurance, we offer a sliding scale payment plan. You will need to document your sources of income and complete a special application.

Can I come to the Walk-in Care for all of my medical needs?

In order to give efficient service to patients that have urgent conditions, we will not be able to give routine primary care such as annual physicals, care for chronic conditions and other services that require extended or regular visits. We will be able to provide sports, pre-employment, and CDL physicals at the walk-in care clinic. We provide complete primary care through appointments with our providers who specialize in providing these types of services. You are welcome to make an appointment with one of these providers to become your primary care provider. However, since they are often booked up in advance, they will usually be unable to take care of your urgent problems. These will be taken care of at walk-in care clinic. By doing this, we can give you the best care for all of your medical needs.

How much does it cost to be seen?

The prices we charge are based on federal government guidelines and vary, depending on the complexity of your medical condition, whether you have been seen at our clinic before and additional services your condition may require. Our fees our consistent with other offices in the area. We offer a sliding scale payment plan for patients who have limited income and are not insured. Please speak with our office staff if you need an application form.

We make every effort to minimize the cost of your medical care. We expect payment at time of service for amounts not covered by insurance. Other arrangements can be made depending on special circumstances. Payments can be made in the form of cash, check, or credit card. If you have questions regarding your account, please call the Billing Office.

Most medical plans require that we collect co-pays at the time of the visit. We will normally ask you for fixed dollar co-pays when you check in. This will allow the check out procedure to go more quickly.

We bill directly to most major health insurance plans as an additional service to our patients. Please check with the receptionist to verify your insurance information and address.

Even though an insurance claim is pending, you will receive a statement each month if your account has an outstanding balance. Please remember that medical insurance is a contract between you and the insurance company. Payment of the professional fee remains your responsibility.

Laboratory tests sent out to a reference lab will be billed directly to you and/or your insurance by the lab.

Because Shady Cove Clinic is a rural health clinic, Medicare may not automatically bill your secondary insurance. Please be sure to provide your supplemental insurance information along with your Medicare card.
